Submission on the Housing Action Plan 2016
As part of its ongoing advocacy work Peter McVerry Trust made a submission to the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government on the proposed new Housing Action Plan.
The submission looked at issues such as the needs of those sleeping rough, young people exiting residential care settings, individuals in need of stabilisation beds and drug free accommodation. It also argued for a major programme of work to tackle the large volume of empty privately owned properties in urban areas. It is estimated that tackling these empty properties could provide 2-3 years of housing need. You can download the full submission below.
Peter McVerry Trust has also met with and made submissions to the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs and hopes in the coming weeks to engage with the Minister for Health, Minister for Drugs Strategy and Minister for Mental Health.
The submissions on the Housing Action Plan followed on from other recent submissions to special Oireachtas Committee on Housing and Homelessness.
