Peter McVerry Trust statement on death of individual sleeping rough in Dublin
The CEO of Peter McVerry Trust, Pat Doyle, has said that the death of the individual sleeping rough in Dublin last night is a tragedy that must not be allowed to happen again.
Mr Doyle said “This tragic death is a realisation of our worst fears. It is an unfortunate reminder that the chance of dying on the street is a risk that over 160 people sleeping rough face on a nightly basis in Dublin.”
“Peter McVerry Trust believes that there are no acceptable reasons or justifications why any person should need to sleep rough in Ireland and believes that as a society we need, and can, do much more to prevent and eliminate homelessness in all its forms. We simply cannot allow a situation to continue were the most vulnerable are dying on our streets. ”
