Just Eat, Ireland’s leading marketplace for online food ordering and delivery has today announced details of the third annual National Takeaway Tuesday. The initiative was originally introduced to give people an excuse to order a takeaway treat during the early days of January.
In addition to rewarding customers with a 10% discount, Just Eat in recent years has partnered with Peter McVerry Trust to leverage the initiative to help raise much-needed funds for people experiencing homelessness in Ireland.
The homeless crisis in Ireland remains an issue of concern and with almost 4,000 young people under the age of 24 currently experiencing homelessness, accounting for approx. 47% of the overall total, the work of Peter McVerry Trust in this area is invaluable.
Just Eat has run a number of initiatives, including National Takeaway Tuesday, over the past number of years to benefit Peter McVerry Trust and specifically to help raise money for its Housing First initiative which is working to house as many people as possible.
Just Eat customers have helped to raise €40,000 in the past two years. This money has funded 4 homes for people experiencing homelessness. The ambition for this year’s National Takeaway Tuesday is to raise as much money as possible so that someone else can be given the home they deserve as early in the new year as possible.
In addition to donating 10% of the value all card orders placed on the Just Eat app and website until midnight on the 16th of January to Peter McVerry Trust, Just Eat is adding an additional incentive to encourage people to find their flavour and choose their favourite takeaway today by offering a 10% discount off all card orders on the Just Eat app and website until midnight on the 16th January.
Commenting on the support for Peter McVerry Trust, Managing Director of Just Eat, Amanda Roche Kelly said: “Just Eat really values and respects the amazing work that is being done by Peter McVerry Trust and other charities to help alleviate the current issue of homelessness in Ireland. We want to play a small part by raising further awareness of the crisis to our community of customers all across the country and to encourage them to help raise badly needed funds that will be used to house homeless young people.”
“To thank everyone who has supported National Takeaway Tuesday in the past and to those considering supporting the initiative this year, we will extend a 10% discount off all card orders placed today, Tuesday 16th January. ‘’
Adding to this, Pat Doyle, CEO of Peter McVerry Trust said, “Providing somebody who’s experienced homelessness with a key to their own home is the ultimate goal of Peter McVerry Trust. We are extremely grateful for the continued support of Just Eat in helping us achieve this goal and also to raise awareness of the Housing First approach to ending long-term homelessness”.
