Peter McVerry Trust TY Social Engagement Programme
Aims
The social engagement programme offered by Peter McVerry Trust is a one week’s rolling programme, which aims to raise awareness of social issues such as homelessness and drug use.
Tasks/Programme details
Peter McVerry Trust’s TY Social Engagement Programme centres around interactive discussions to gain new perspectives on homelessness and addiction. The purpose of the placement is to learn: why some people become and remain homeless; why some people use drugs; the difficulty in giving up drugs; how homeless people see their past and see their future; to compare homeless people’s experience with your own.
Activities typically include
• An introductory talk on homeless in Ireland and different service offered by Peter McVerry Trust
• Meeting Fr McVerry, staff and service users
• Interviews with our service users
• Visiting our drop in centre, stabilisation service and one of our residential services
• Visit to the Criminal Courts of Justice
Required skills
To be open to observations and interactions with both our service users and staff.
