Statement from Peter McVerry Trust on the Freedom of the City.
Pat Doyle, CEO speaking at the Freedom of the City ceremony said “On behalf of all of us at Peter McVerry Trust I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to Peter.”
“Peter is an inspirational figure to both staff and service users alike. For the last 40 years he has been a moral compass for Irish society and Ireland is much better place because of that.”
“It was Peter’s vision that led to the creation of the charity that has now taken his name, Peter McVerry Trust, and it is his vision that enabled us to support almost 3,600 young people in Dublin last year.”
“Peter has been a tireless campaigner for, and supporter of, so many young people over the years. Tonight Peter McVerry Trust was able to bring 20 such young people to join in this unique occasion. The warmth and sincerity with which those young people speak of Peter clearly demonstrates that life altering impact that he has had on them and many others like them.”
“Without doubt the award is just recognition of his contribution to the citizens and residents of Dublin, a contribution he continues to make today, and we hope, long into the future.”
