Under 18s Residential Services
Balcurris Under 18s Residential Service and Tabor House Under 18s Service have recently become incorporated into Peter McVerry Trust. Both services were originally set up by Fr. McVerry, who witnessed the urgent need for accommodation for homeless children and teenagers.
Balcurris Under 18s Service - The service offers 5 medium to long term placements for teenagers, aged between 15-18 years old. There are also 2 semi-independent flats offered to clients over the age of 18 years as well as an outreach service to continue supporting former residents for as long as necessary.
The service provides a homely environment where young people can develop relationships and skills necessary for them to move forward in their lives, and to reduce the likelihood of residents entering adult homeless services on departure.
Tabor House Under 18s Service - This service has reached it's 30th anniversary. It is a community-based children's home for six young people, aged 12-18 years old. It accepts both girls and boys and provides them with a stable, supportive home in which to grow and develop. Each child has a key-worker, who has a primary responsibility for that child's care. A lot of contact is maintained with the child's family, who are encouraged to visit regularly.
The service provides a warm, friendly home, with qualified, experienced staff to help each child to overcome the difficulties of their past and the fulfil their potential in the future.
